Guthrie County is located 35 minutes west of the state capitol of Des Moines and 90 minutes east of Omaha, Nebraska.  Most cities in the county are located within 15 minutes of Interstate 80. 
 
Guthrie County has a regional airport, a county hospital, Springbrook State Park, numerous county parks and recreation areas, five area golf courses (including one PGA Championship course), and two private lake developments.

A new aquatic center opened for the 2006 summer season in Guthrie Center.  The Raccoon River Valley Trail is a multi-use recreation trail that passes through parts of Polk, Dallas, Guthrie and Greene Counties.  Click here for more information on Tourism.

In 2005, the Coon Rapids-Whiterock area won the coveted designation as the one of the first three "Iowa Great Places".  

Iowa's tenth Bird Conservation Area (BCA) was inaugurated December 2006.  The Raccoon River Savanna BCA is built around the core protected areas of Whiterock Conservancy (4,909 acres), Elk Grove Wildlife Area (1,600 acres), and Springbrook State Park/Wildlife Area (1,286 acres)  www.whiterockconservancy.org/
